What is the Runner Tune Up Coaching Program?

The Runner Tune Up is a monthly 1:1 coaching program that will help keep injury at bay while working towards crushing your training and performance goals through an individualized training plan that incorporates all five facets of fitness.

The five facets of fitness are physical training, nutrition, hydration, recovery and mindset/ stress management.

How is the Runner Tune Up different from traditional run coaching?

The Personalized Running Doc otherwise known as Dr. Lauren isn’t just any run coach, she is also a doctor of physical therapy, runner rehab specialist and former D1 athlete for the University of Rhode Island. So your training program will be created with a greater understanding of training principles and their effects on the different systems of the body. This is important because training is not solely about developing muscular strength, speed and endurance. Training incorporates all five facets of fitness, which influence the body’s resiliency and running performance. Incorporating this holistic approach to training is what allow’s Dr. Lauren to help runners worldwide run pain free and crush their goals without fear of injury!

What’s included in the Runner Tune Up?

  • Monthly 1:1 coaching sessions either via zoom or in-person if local to the Rhode Island area.

  • Individualized running warm up including video demonstration with voiced over instruction.

  • Nutrition guidance for during long runs, speed workouts and races as well as personalized instructions on how to better fuel for performance around running and other workouts based upon a current nutritional intake assessment, training demands and injury history.

  • Hydration and electrolyte guidance to aid in transport of fuel, recovery rate and performance output.

  • Recommendations to promote optimal stress management, sleep and other recovery tools to maximize your body’s ability to recover and progressively increase training loads.

  • Customized training plan based upon your running experience, current training and running goals delivered via the final surge app.

  • 24/5 access to Dr. Lauren via final surge, text and email.

  • And two training guides to help you with strength training, running, hydration, nutrition, sleep, and recovery throughout the program and beyond!

  • Program Add Ons:

    • Runner specific strength training program to complement your phase of training and performance goals!

How does the Runner Tune Up work?

During the initial coaching call, Dr. Lauren will work with you to create an individualized training plan based upon your current level of fitness and running experience as well as taking into consideration your training goals, upcoming races and schedule considerations.

On this call, you will also discuss areas of limitation or weakness to help design a run specific warm up geared towards your body’s needs. This may or may not require a brief physical assessment depending on your injury history. In follow-up coaching calls, you may look to progress these exercises to increase strength, endurance, and speed to match the demands of your training and fitness goals.

Time will also be allocated each session to discussing training priorities and goals. Focusing on habits you can build outside of your physical training to help support your body’s ability to recover, adapt and perform. This will include discussing fueling for performance and intra-run fueling, hydration and electrolyte needs throughout your day and on the run, stress management tools, recovery priorities and mindset tips to keep you healthy throughout all phases of your training.

Each program is uniquely personalized based upon your running experience, injury history and goals with monthly memberships available for 3 and 6 months durations.

How long does each session last?

Initial coaching calls take approximately 75 minutes due to the extensive discussion around creating your individualized training plan and running warm up as well as reviewing priorities and goals outside of training for the next month.

Follow-up sessions are approximately 60 minutes in duration.

How do we meet for the coaching calls?

90% of runners meet via a private zoom meeting. Each appointment reminder contains the zoom link needed to access your coaching call if meeting virtually.

Spots are limited for in-person sessions. If you are specifically interested in participating in this program in-person please inquire during your Discovery call.

Will insurance cover the program or can I be reimbursed via my insurance company?

The Runner Tune-Up Program is not covered or reimbursable via insurance. The level of care, support and coaching that is provided to each runner is above what standard insurance companies are willing to pay or reimburse.

That being said Dr. Lauren offers payment plan options and exclusive perks for those looking to pay in full. And certain FSA/HSA programs can be accepted as payment along with all other major credit cards, cash, check and/or venmo.
